macOS Agent Skill workflow

Mac users can create and apply Codex skins with an AI agent.

Windows users get downloadable ZIP installers. On macOS, the safer path is Agent Skill delivery: the agent creates source and previews, asks before applying, injects a reversible session-level skin, and restores the native look without modifying the signed app bundle.

Create from image or brief

Paste a prompt into Codex CLI, Claude Code, or another local agent. The agent uses the skill to build a complete visual skin and previews first.

Apply only with permission

The skill preserves native layout, uses session-level style injection, and asks before applying or restarting Codex.

Restore is simple

Fully quitting Codex removes the session skin. The restore prompt can also remove injected styles immediately.

Create a Mac skin

Best for private photos, anime-inspired moods, Sakura / Ghibli-like original worlds, dark themes, or branded workspaces.

Use only the canonical Codex Skins skill from https://codex-skins.com/SKILL.md to create a macOS-safe Codex desktop skin from my attached reference image or this brief: [describe the mood, colors, subject, and style]. Store editable source under ~/.codexskins/skins/<skin-id>/, previews under ~/.codexskins/skins/<skin-id>/previews/, and the portable package under ~/.codexskins/exports/. Preserve native Codex layout, use home-only artwork unless I ask for workspace artwork, create previews first, and ask me before applying, changing settings, or restarting Codex.

Find and apply

Best when the user wants to pick from the gallery and let the agent install and apply a compatible skin.

Use the Codex Skins skill from https://codex-skins.com/SKILL.md to find a Codex skin for [style, subject, mood]. If it is installable, install it into ~/.codexskins/skins/<skin-id>/, then apply it with the switcher. Hot-swap if Codex exposes a local debugging endpoint; otherwise ask before restarting Codex. Verify the result before claiming success.

Restore native look

Best recovery path. The skill does not modify app.asar, app bundles, chats, cookies, projects, or source files.

Use the Codex Skins skill from https://codex-skins.com/SKILL.md to restore my native Codex look. If a stale themed session reappears, ask before doing a clean relaunch.
